Talks

I write about what interests me - I have a naturally curious mind, to some that just means I'm plain nosey!

In-depth research becomes a labour of love, not work.

Writing articles is just a stage in that process, not necessarily the end.

Nicholas Wollaston

Nicholas Wollaston

During the 1960s, Nicholas Wollaston embarked on a tour of England.  In 1963 he spent Remembrance Weekend in Swanage.  The visit was recorded in his book 'Winter in England'.

The Swanage that Wollaston found was on the brink of a new era, but nearly 50 years later it has already passed.

Wollaston wrote in detail about the town and its people - leaving a fascinating record.

MacDonell

Aeneas Ranald MacDonell CBE

MacDonell was born into wealth.  He flirted with the world of theatre before embarking on an adventure in Russia.  Tried by the Bolsheviks he would be sentenced to death, twice.

Stripped of his wealth he returned to England, eventually retiring in Dorset.

The talk is of interest to anyone who enjoys a good yarn!
